Bishop Loughlin Sends One of NYC’s Largest Student Groups to Honors Music Festival

Bishop Loughlin Sends One of NYC’s Largest Student Groups to Honors Music Festival

On March 27 and 28, 2026, the finest high school musicians from across New York City will gather at Grand Street Campus in Williamsburg for the NYC Honors Music Festival.

Bishop Loughlin will be there in force.

An extraordinary 23 Loughlin students have been selected to perform in the Symphonic Band — representing one of the largest groups from any single school participating in this year's festival.

Jaedan Mann will represent Loughlin as one of just four clarinetists selected for the All-City Orchestra, while 22 of our students will perform in the Concert Band—a truly remarkable accomplishment.

What makes that number even more remarkable is this: the majority of these students had never played an instrument before entering Loughlin.

They started with no experience. They practiced. They committed themselves. And now they stand among the best young musicians in New York City.

In a city known for its specialized performing arts high schools, this achievement speaks volumes. Bishop Loughlin is not a conservatory or audition-based music school. We are the oldest Catholic high school in Brooklyn — and one of the oldest in the country — and our students continue to compete and excel at the very highest levels.

Loughlin will be especially well represented in the Clarinet section, with all four chairs filled by our students.

And our excellence extends beyond All-City. Year after year, our students have earned outstanding marks at the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) solo festivals — a reflection of both their personal dedication and the strength of our music faculty.

We are also still growing. This year, we proudly launched our newly formed string program, with 10 freshmen, sophomores, and juniors now studying violin as the program takes shape. The future of music at Loughlin is expanding — and thriving.

The NYC Honors Music Festival brings together elite student musicians from across the five boroughs to rehearse challenging repertoire and perform under the direction of distinguished guest conductors — often professional musicians and college professors. It is a transformative experience and a tremendous honor.

Our students will perform on Saturday, March 28, at 2:00 PM.

We could not be prouder of our 23 All-City musicians!

Loughlin truly is The Place for Music
