Happy National Library Week!
On Monday, April 7th, Loughlin’s Library Media Center began its week-long National Library Week Celebration. This year’s theme was: “Drawn to The Library!”
Throughout the week, Loughlinites shared their perspectives on what makes a library a special place; participated in daily trivia; and being it is National Poetry Month, concluded the week with a screening of the 2007 film, Freedom Writers starring Hilary Swank. Additionally, Loughlin’s Library Media Center launched two contests and a challenge during Library Week, which included: The 16th Annual BLoglin Writing and Art Contest in collaboration with the Arts Department; The Earth Day Button Design Contest in collaboration with the Science Department; and the Spring into Reading: Science Fiction Challenge in which students will be given a month to read and recommend any Science Fiction book of their choosing! In fact, it was during Library Week that freshman Alexis Olivia Taylor was announced as the winner of the prior Mystery and Horror Reading Challenge.
Finally, on Thursday, YA Librarian from the Clinton Hill Brooklyn Public Library Branch revisited Loughlin and signed up faculty, staff, and students alike for BPL Cards. For some, it was their very first public library card!
All Loughlin Library Week Activities and Events were developed by Loughlin's Library Media Center Aides under the moderation of Library Media Specialist, Mr. Frank and Ms. Choho as well as President of The LMC Aides, senior, Safiya Bell. Additionally, during Library Week, the LMC featured original works by Loughlin's Poets & Writers Club: A Limerick by junior, Leah Gethers (below) and the winning submission to last year's 15th Annual BLoglin Writing Contest entitled, "Crusty's Crumbly Adventure: A Loaf Tale" by sophomore, Zion Gibson.
All-in-all, it was another great Loughlin Library Week in the books!
