Honoring the Legacy of Charles T. Mallet ’55

Honoring the Legacy of Charles T. Mallet ’55

This summer, Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School had the joy of welcoming a very special visitor, Kennedy McGahan, granddaughter of the late Charles T. Mallet ’55.

Charles, who passed away last year, often spoke with great affection about his Loughlin education and the life he built upon the scholarship that made his time here possible. Though he and his family lived in Washington state, his connection to Brooklyn and to Loughlin never faded. In fact, Charles remained a loyal supporter of the school throughout his lifetime.

When Kennedy stopped by Loughlin unexpectedly, our Director of Admissions, Josephine McKenna ’90, helped her discover her grandfather’s place in our 1950s yearbooks. She was moved to see him as a young graduate and to hear about the impact his alma mater had had on him. A few days later, she returned with her mother, Renee McGahan, who shared heartfelt stories about Charles’s deep love for Loughlin.

Together, Renee and her daughter decided to ensure that his legacy will live on. The very next day, the Mallet family established the Charles T. Mallet ’55 Memorial Scholarship, which will provide future students with the same opportunity Charles once received and cherished.

We are deeply grateful to the Mallet family for their generosity and for allowing Charles’s spirit to continue shaping the lives of young men and women. Their story is a beautiful reminder that Loughlin is more than a school—it is a community that lasts a lifetime and beyond.
