Loughlin Champagnie Twins Taking Off in the NBA
Through the years, we have reported on our remarkable Loughlin twins — Justin '19 and Julian '19 Champagnie (pronounced sham-penny)— and what a journey it has been.
From their starring roles on outstanding Loughlin teams (ranked #1 in New York State in 2019!), through their standout college careers at Pitt and St. John's, and now as NBA players at just 24 years old, Justin and Julian have represented Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School with pride, talent, and character at every level.
It's rare enough for one student-athlete from any high school to reach the NBA. For two to make it — identical twins, no less, from the same graduating class — is nothing short of extraordinary.
And yet, for anyone who watched them compete in a Loughlin uniform, it comes as no surprise. They have always jumped into challenges with both feet - read the story below from The Athletic for more context. As students, they were both active in our Admissions and Advancement efforts, providing school tours and volunteering for reunions, open houses, and other events. Their father, known at Loughlin as "Coach Penny," coaches Varsity Soccer at Loughlin to this day (the program he founded when Justin and Julian were Freshmen after coaching at Baruch College for 14 years). Penny was a midfielder for the 1996 National Championship team at St. John's University.
We encourage you to check out the videos and photos in this story highlighting the twins' incredible journey — from high school standouts to college stars to professional athletes on the biggest stage in basketball.
The Athletic Tells a Story of Overcoming Odds
Justin has been with the Washington Wizards this season and has earned a central role in the rotation. And Brooklyn's own seems to have a knack for turning it up a notch when he plays in front of the home folks.

Just this past weekend in Brooklyn vs. the Nets, Justin put on a show with 21 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks — going a perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line. A month earlier, on January 2nd, he poured in 20 points against the Brooklyn Nets in Washington (watch the highlights below).
And those performances are no fluke. It's not unusual to see Justin deliver a stat line like his recent outing against the league-leading Detroit Pistons: 14 points and 7 rebounds in just 15 minutes of action. Justin is a versatile, hard-nosed competitor known for his relentless energy, and he is proving he belongs on the biggest stage in basketball.
Julian, meanwhile, has been starting for the San Antonio Spurs for the better part of two years and continues to make his mark on the franchise — literally.

On New Year's Eve, December 31, 2025, Julian set a new Spurs franchise record by draining 11 three-pointers in a dramatic come-from-behind victory over the New York Knicks. He finished the night with 36 points and 6 rebounds in a performance that had basketball fans across the country buzzing.
Like his brother, Julian seems to save some of his best basketball for games against New York City's hometown teams — giving Loughlin Nation plenty of reasons to cheer.
What makes their story even more special is where it began. Justin and Julian grew up in Brooklyn, walked the halls of Bishop Loughlin, and were shaped by the teachers, coaches, and community that make our school so unique. Their success is a testament not only to their God-given talent and personal dedication, but also to the foundation that a Loughlin education provides — one built on faith, discipline, and the belief that greatness is possible.
Justin and Julian, the entire Loughlin family — alumni, students, faculty, and friends — are cheering for you. You have made us extraordinarily proud, and your story inspires the next generation of Lions to dream big.
