Loughlin Hosts 16th Annual Literary Event
On Tuesday, June 10th Loughlin's Library Media Center hosted its 16th Annual Literary Event.
Thanks to the many participants that included members of Sophomore Band under the direction of Mr. Wilson, Mr. Pexton, and Mr. Grandchamps as well as the Poets and Writers Club under the direction of Club Moderator, Mr. Frank and Club President, Junior Marley Perch, the many outstanding artworks provided by Ms. Brucas' art students, the Library Media Center Aides who hosted the event, and the many faculty and staff who helped judge and support our writers and artists.
Not to mention, the winners of this year's 16th Annual BLoglin Writing and Art Contest were also announced at the well-attended event.
The theme for this year's BLoglin Writing Contest was: "The pursuit of happiness!"
And this year's winners in Writing were...
Honorable Mention went to senior and recent graduate, Caden Charles for his poem, "The Plateau."
Third Prize went to sophomore, Zion Gibson for his poem, "How Wings Remember They're Sky."
Second Prize went to junior, Marley Perch for her short story, "Happiness in The Eyes of Divinity."
And The Winning Writer of this year's contest was... sophomore, Ava Williams for her short story, "Dust and Silk"!
The theme for this year's BLoglin Art Contest was: "Addressing mental health."
And this year's winners in Art were...
Honorable Mention went to junior, Yeji Jeong.
Third Prize went to junior, Alkaly Kaba.
Second Prize went to junior, Ryan Phillips.
And The Winning Artist of this year's contest was... Ayellat Barbee!
Also, the winner of The Spring into Reading: Science Fiction Challenge was announced and it was sophomore, Rozie Phillips, who also happened to celebrate her birthday on the day of The Literary Event! Rozie won for reading: World War Z by author, Max Brooks.
And finally, two special awards are presented each year to honor a freshmen and senior artist and writer.
This year's recipient of The Freshmen Rising Writer Award, an award that recognizes exceptional talent and promise in writing, was awarded to freshmen, Tonia Henry.
And senior and recent graduate, Safiya Bell was the recipient of The Senior Arts and Humanities Award, an award that recognizes a senior who has made a significant impact to the arts and humanities over their four years at Loughlin.
