Poets & Writers Partners with BPL

Poets & Writers Partners with BPL

On Monday afternoon, March 17th, Loughlin's Poets & Writers Club as well as its Library Media Center Aides met with the Young Adult Librarian, Eric Horwitz of the Brooklyn Public Library's Clinton Hill Branch.

Mr. Horwitz introduced a city-wide writing contest to Loughlin's premiere writing club and library assistants.  The contest is named in honor of the late YA Brooklyn author, Ned Vizzini who championed mental health awareness.  Bishop Loughlin's Library Media Specialist, Mr. Frank even opened the contest up to all Loughlin students.  To date, a number of Loughlinites have already submitted to the contest, which will award cash prizes and publishing to the winners.

In addition to announcing the contest, Mr. Horwitz shared that he was in attendance for opening night of Loughlin's recent production of The SpongeBob Musical and was excited to see many familiar faces from the production in attendance during his visit.

Finally, Mr. Horwitz invited Loughlin's two groups to free upcoming events at the Clinton Hill Branch, which include: a Science Fiction Book Club, a Zine writing session hosted by the Pratt Institute, and signed up on the spot any Loughlinites who needed a BPL Card.  Mr. Frank and Mr. Horwitz both agree this is the beginning of a great partnership!
