On July 6, we remembered the martyrdom of St. Thomas More, executed in 1535 for remaining faithful to his conscience and to God, even when it cost him his life.
His final words continue to inspire generations:
‘I die the king's good servant, and God's first.’
These words capture why St. Thomas More is the patron of our St. Thomas More Pathway to Law program. More was an accomplished lawyer, scholar, judge, and statesman, but above all, he was a man of unwavering faith, moral courage, and integrity. He reminds us that the pursuit of justice is rooted not only in knowledge of the law but also in the strength of one's character and conscience.
Our program's motto, Lex et Fides — Law and Faith, reflects this ideal. We strive to prepare students to become thoughtful leaders who understand that the law is best served when guided by faith, ethics, and a commitment to the common good.
On this anniversary of his witness, may we be inspired by St. Thomas More's example of courage, conviction, and faithful service.”
