Summer Receptions with Bro. Dennis

Summer Receptions with Bro. Dennis

Bro. Dennis and Andrew Leary met alumni on Thursday, July 24th, in Jamestown, Rhode Island. We were grateful to spend the afternoon with (pictured left to right in thumbnail) Robert Markmann '60, Greg Bertles '61, and Connell (Chris) Cannon '65.

Each are long time supporters of Loughlin. Greg Bertles and his wife, Midge, launched the Brother "Baldwin" Peter Bonventre, FSC '45 Scholarship Fund seven years ago. This fund has since provided many students with scholarship support.

Our host, Chris Cannon, is a former member of our Board of Governors and endowed the C. Christopher Scholarship Fund in 2016 during the Three Schools One Foundation Campaign. Bob Markmann has been a strong annual supporter for 25 years.

These men and their families help to ensure that Loughlin thrives in 2025.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Carol and Paul Evanson ’59 of St. Augustine for graciously hosting a reception in Wilton, Connecticut, on Wednesday, July 16th. Paul, a dedicated friend and supporter of Loughlin, is also a proud member of the Lancer Hall of Fame.

We were honored by the presence of Noreen McCartney Haffner ’63 BMD, a former and transformational board chair. Noreen, along with Peter Haffner, MD, PhD ’62, and her brother, George McCartney, has been a steadfast supporter of the James ’36 & George ’31 McCartney Scholarship Fund.

Art Mahon, Loughlin Class of 1952, a longtime friend of the Christian Brothers, the Archdiocese of New York, Loughlin, Manhattan College, and several other institutions, also joined us. Mr. Mahon established the Art Mahon ’52 Scholarship Fund during our 2015 Three Schools One Foundation Campaign.

A special note of apology to Loughlin alumnus and basketball great Ken Wheeler, Esq. ’83 of Greenwich, CT, who was also in attendance—unfortunately, we missed the chance to capture a photo with him (see below).
