Friday, February 2nd Loughlin proudly welcomed back one of its amazing alums, doing amazing things: Brooklyn’s Deputy Borough President, Rev. Kimberly Council ’90.
Loughlin and the Council family have a longstanding connection - her siblings, cousin, and children all attended Loughlin. Rev. Council shared her insights and love for Loughlin with a large group of students, current History teachers, a few of Kimberly’s former teachers, and administration. She discussed her journey to a seat in our local government and how Loughlin was, along with her faith, parents, and family, at the cornerstone of the foundation that made her who she is today.
On her visit we learned that through trials, tribulations, sorrow, and defeat Kim held steadfast; she never settled. She reminded students to know their worth and what they bring to the table or the conversation, to surround themselves with good, supportive, intelligent people who won’t steer them wrong and will help them build their character and their future.
Kim made the politics of politics less confusing and bewildering; she added that “when one focuses on the issues, there is no reason to tear each other down.” Character, integrity, faithfulness, a healthy sense of self, and community were emphasized during our first Breakfast With in 2024.
Loughlin wishes the Deputy Borough President continued success.
