St. Thomas More Pre-Law Program

Lex et Fides: The St. Thomas More Pathway to Pre-Law Program at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School is a developing program designed to introduce students to the fundamentals of law, government, the U.S. legal system, critical thinking, civic engagement, and public service using mandatory core subjects, electives, guest speakers, and internships. The program will be geared toward students through rigorous coursework, real-world experiences, and skill development to prepare the students for college-level legal studies and civic leadership. The course, to be offered in the near future, will be rooted in the school’s Lasallian values of faith, service, and community. 

Program Highlights

  • Foundational Coursework (projected): Students will explore legal studies through Dual enrollment course, such as Introduction to Law, Constitutional Law, or Criminal Justice. A Senior Capstone Project would be a requirement to successfully complete the program. 
  • Experiential Learning: Students participate in Civic Spirit, student government, and Speech and Debate to apply legal concepts and practice public advocacy.
  • Guest Speakers & Mentorship: The program features visits from legal professionals, including attorneys, judges, and community leaders, offering mentorship and career guidance.
  • Internships/Partnerships & Field Experiences: Collaborations with local law firms, universities, and civic institutions provide students with opportunities to visit courtrooms, attend legal workshops, and engage in internships or shadowing experiences.
  • College & Career Readiness: The Pre-Law Program supports college application preparation and introduces students to pre-law college tracks, helping them plan their future academic and professional goals.
