PSAT Day, Oct 25, 2024

On Friday, October 25, 2024, the PSAT will be administered to all students in grades 9, 10, and 11.

·         Here are some tough realities for test day:

o   Students must arrive on time ( before 8:35 ) to be admitted to the test. There is no provision for students arriving late.

o   Students must have a charged school issued ipad. There is no provision to charge ipads on test day.

o   Students must have an active College Board account and the updated Blue Book app on their ipad. Students should see their guidance counselor immediately if this has not already been done. Test day is too late.

Additionally, here is what you need to know.

·         The PSAT is a valuable opportunity for students to practice for the SAT. The PSAT is not used by colleges for any purpose and the score is not recorded on transcripts.

·         Unlike all other tests students are familiar with, a student cannot study for the PSAT. Rather, students can practice for the test by logging into their College Board accounts and doing the practice questions for the PSAT. The fact is: students who read and have a strong vocabulary are more likely to score higher than students who read infrequently.

·         The test is multiple choice. Questions go from easiest to hardest. Students are encouraged to eliminate wrong choices and make their best guess from the answers that remain.

·         The PSAT is a digital test which means it can only be taken on a school-issued ipad.

·         The test has two sections: a Reading and Writing section and a Math section.

·         Students are allowed to use their calculators for the math section, but there is also a calculator built into the test for student use.

·         Of course, students must be in full Loughlin uniform to be admitted to the test.

·         The test will end at approximately 11:30. Students will be dismissed for the day at the end of the test.
